I am definitely sold on Geothermal, particularly for larger homes. Before making the decision we carried out an analysis of running costs for the various heating options, including gas, diesel and heat pumps and geothermal was a third of the cost of gas. With the Next Energy solution we also chose the cooling feature - allowing room temperature to be lowered in summer using the same principle but in reverse. The house won’t be completed until Summer 2010 but we have found Next Energy to be competent and good to deal with and I would work with them again.

..genuine power savings of between 60 and 70%...

I’ve seen genuine power savings of between 60 and 70% with the geothermal hot water system installed by Next Energy. Our only regret is that we didn’t have the infloor heating set up the same way – if we build again we would definitely look at a complete geothermal heating system.

...future proofing against escalating power costs...

When we built our new home, we explored all the options and chose to work with Next Energy. Initially our expectation was price would be prohibitive but we were pretty encouraged by the proposal which required about the same investment as solar systems and was probably more competitive than any other heat pump system.

We installed two systems – one for hot water and a separate one for central heating. The under floor heating is throughout the house giving us constant temperatures of 20 – 22 degrees. Even through a really cold snap we have not needed to use the gas fire. As for hot water – the system gives us all we need.

In this day and age, our objective to future proof ourselves against escalating power costs has been more than justified. The system is absolutely amazing – what makes it more amazing is the integrity and attention to detail by Next Energy.
