Next Energy Air-to-Water Systems

For warmer parts of New Zealand, typically the far North, we have an Air-to-Water heating system which extracts energy from the air and then converts this to heat which is transferred around the property via a water based heating system. The basic principle for the air system lies in the experience gained from geothermal.

The main notable difference and advantage compared with competing products is that the Heat Pump the system uses is made up of two elements. Most Heat Pumps house everything in one unit which is positioned outside the property, exposing sensitive parts to the elements which has servicing and maintenance issues. As the fluid heating circuit is exposed to the cold heat loss is significant.

The Next Energy Air-to-Water System differs significantly in that the Heat Pump used comprises of two elements – an outdoor unit that just captures heat from the air and a unit that is installed inside the home, (in a garage for instance) which houses 95% of the remaining components, which has many significant advantages:

  • Components are protected from outdoor conditions
  • Thermal loss is reduced significantly
  • Maintenance is easier to carryout
  • The COP is high, vastly improving efficiencies.
