Geothermal Hot Water Heating Systems
Geothermal hot water heating is the next generation in renewable water heating and is an ideal solution for supplying hot water to your new home or can be fitted retrospectively for those looking to switch to a more energy efficient option.
Primary source of water heating
Geothermal is a primary source of water heating and keeps working regardless of the weather conditions, even if it’s a very cold or cloudy day. Unlike solar hot water heating it doesn’t require boost elements when weather conditions are poor and when you need it most.
Reducing power consumption by approx 60%
Next Energy’s hot water heating systems allow for hot water to be produced on a daily basis while reducing electrical power consumption by approx 60%. Hot water heating is a separate standalone unit, the DHW60, separate from any home heating system to maximize efficiencies. The DHW60 Unit is capable of supplying 60°C hot water into a purpose designed 300 Litre mains pressure cylinder which is suitable for a family of 4-6, without the need for boost elements day or night, summer or winter irrespective of the weather conditions. We do, however, include heating elements that are redundant and can be switched on should for any reason the Geothermal system be out of service for maintenance etc.
Captor Field
An outside area of approximately 35m² needs to be available for the Captor Field which runs the Geothermal domestic hot water unit. The Captors are installed to a shallow depth of between 50 and 60 cm, which is significantly shallower than competitor systems. The Captors should be buried in the garden as the ground needs to be replenished with energy from sun and rain, they are typically placed under lawn areas as this offers the best solution. They cannot be buried under concrete driveways.
I’ve seen genuine power savings of between 60 and 70% with the geothermal hot water system installed by Next Energy. Our only regret is that we didn’t have the in floor heating set up the same way – if we build again we would definitely look at a complete geothermal heating system.![]() Gary Boot, Canterbury |
